THE SPORETICUS STORY

Made to be craved.

Built to be repeated.

The short version: a skier, a diagnosis at 30, and a supplement graveyard that changed everything.

Here's the long version.

A skier in a dark jacket and pants, wearing a white helmet and goggles, struggles down a steep snowy slope while carrying skis and ski poles on their back. Bright red gloves are visible.

Climbing the Middle Teton in Grand Teton National Park.

CH. 01

It started with a skier and a problem.

Before any of this, I was chasing long days in the backcountry, fueled by energy bars that quit before I did.

I wanted real ingredients that could actually keep up and taste good.

Then a podcast about fungi sent me down a rabbit hole I still haven't climbed out of.

I quit caffeine and started testing Cordyceps mushrooms. It kept me steady all day, and earned its place in my routine.

So I began building my own recipes in my truck camper's tiny kitchen, to make this incredible fungi taste a little less like the forest floor.

No brand. No plan. Just a guy trying to make something that worked.

A person standing in a medical exam room wearing a light lavender surgical scrub gown, blue patterned socks, a face mask, and a cap, making peace signs with both hands.

Awaiting surgery, and the unknown path before me.

CH. 02

Then came the part nobody plans for.

At 30, I was diagnosed with Stage 3 testicular cancer.

Surgery came within a week.

The cancer had already spread to my abdomen and chest, so chemo came next.

I won't dress this part up.

It was the hardest season of my life, and for a lot of those nearest to me.

It was also the season that gave this company its reason to exist.

A lifestyle scene in a hospital or treatment room showing two people wearing face masks. In the foreground, a woman in a maroon top and light blue beaded necklace holds up five fingers.

With my now wife, on my last cycle of chemo.

CH. 03

Chemo taught me the lesson that built this brand.

During treatment, I was the most motivated person alive, because I wanted to stay alive.

I stacked supplements, powders, and a strict diet on top of chemo, with my oncologist's encouragement to incorporate the Lion's Mane and Cordyceps.

Maximum stakes. Maximum discipline.

Then treatment ended. And the routine collapsed anyway.

I was left with a supplement graveyard of half-used bottles and good intentions.

That's the part that stayed with me. Not the cancer. The collapse.

If maximum motivation couldn't keep a routine alive, the routines were built wrong.

It was never about discipline. It was the format.

Person holding a sign with 'Today is my last day of treatment!' in front of a motivational poster.

My last day of chemo. Not realizing there was still a long road ahead before the "green" light came.

CH. 04

No detectable cancer. And one very clear idea.

Three months of scans later, I heard the words every thriver waits for: no detectable cancer.

My now wife and I hit the road in the truck camper and attempted to process it all.

Somewhere out there in the woods though, the idea for this business locked into place.

A real-food bite. Potent extracts printed on the label. Ingredients you can pronounce. And a business built around giving back.

Something small enough to repeat every day, and good enough that you'd want to.

And so I began building it.

CH. 05

ODD BALLS got us here. The mission outgrew the punchline.

We launched as ODD BALLS in the fall of 2023. One ball, one odd founder, and a name that made people smile.

It did its job. It broke the ice around a cancer nobody wants to talk about, and it got us here.

But somewhere between the first bag and now, the mission outgrew the punchline.

So we gave the brand a name built to carry it.

WHY SPORETICUS

SPOREwhere life begins

The name breaks into two pieces.

Spore, where life begins.

Ticus, the Latin ending used to name living things.

Sporeticus.

Protector of life.

The mission isn't bolted on. It's in the name.

Our Values

Four things we don't negotiate.

Quality

Quality

Real food, real extracts, no shortcuts.

Every ingredient earns its place or it doesn't go in the bag.

That means a shorter-shelf-life product to support a longer shelf-life-you.

Transparency

Transparency

We tell you what's actually in it.

Compound percentages, printed on the label. 2% Erinacines. 1% Cordycepin. 30% Beta Glucans.

No hidden natural or artificial flavors, or preservatives or additives.

Stewardship over Scale

Stewardship over Scale

Value over volume.

We judge decisions by the value they create for all stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and the environment.

Business is not about the units moved, but the value created in the world.

Activism through Action

Activism through Action

Giving back is in our dna.

A portion of every purchase supports young adults impacted by cancer.

An underserved demographic, and a diagnosis that built this company.

THE SPORETICUS THRIVER'S INITIATIVE

Every purchase gives back.

Young adult cancer sits in a gap.

Too old for pediatric programs. Too young for the standard support networks.

People between 18 and 39 fall through it every day, and I lived inside it.

The give-back exists to close that gap where we can reach.

Every purchase supports nonprofits serving young adults impacted by cancer.

Permanent. Not seasonal.
