Sporeticus functional mushroom energy bites, formerly ODD BALLS, made with Lion's Mane and Cordyceps.

ODD BALLS Is Now Sporeticus: Same Mushrooms, New Name, Here's What Changed

Jon Carter

The short version

ODD BALLS is now Sporeticus.

Same founder. Same mushrooms. Same 750mg daily dose of Lion's Mane and Cordyceps.

The one thing that changed on your end is the format: the daily serving is now two Sporeticus Energy Bites instead of one ball. The name changed. The standards did not.

If you typed "what happened to ODD BALLS" into a search bar and landed here, you are in the right place.

Short answer: nothing happened to it. It grew up and got a new name.

Here is the honest, no-spin version of what changed, what did not, and what it means for you if you have been keeping a bag on the counter for years.

Wait, is Sporeticus the same as ODD BALLS?

Yes. Same company, same founder, same kitchen, same mushrooms.

ODD BALLS Funguy started as a real-food answer to a cabinet full of mushroom powders and capsules that never got used. That has not changed. What changed is the name on the bag.

Sporeticus is the brand ODD BALLS was always turning into. The mascot, a slightly ancient, battle-tested warrior mushroom, finally has his own name over the door.

Why change the name at all?

Fair question. "ODD BALLS" got people to smile, and we will always love it for that.

But it also spent a lot of its energy explaining the joke instead of explaining the mushrooms.

Sporeticus lets the product lead. The name points at what is actually in the bag: real, studied functional mushrooms, made to be eaten every day. Less punchline, more point.

The trademark is ours, the packaging is finished, and the store now lives at sporeticus.co. The blog you are reading did not move, so every article you have ever bookmarked still works.

Is it the same product inside?

The mushrooms are identical.

Lion's Mane, studied for focus and mental clarity. Cordyceps, studied for steady physical energy and stamina. The same two compounds doing the same two jobs across a working day.

The daily dose is also identical: 750mg of Lion's Mane and Cordyceps, total.

The change is how you take it. One ODD BALL became two Sporeticus Energy Bites a day. Same 750mg of mushrooms, now split across two bites instead of packed into one. Two small moments in your day instead of one, which, it turns out, is easier to actually remember.

If you want the deeper background on what these two mushrooms do and why the format matters more than the marketing, that is all in our guide to what functional mushrooms actually do.

What is actually different

  • The name. ODD BALLS is now Sporeticus.
  • The website. oddballsfunguy.com now points you to sporeticus.co. Old links redirect, so nothing you saved is broken.
  • The serving. Two Sporeticus Energy Bites a day, instead of one ball. Same 750mg daily dose of mushrooms.
  • The packaging. New look, same real-food recipe you can pronounce.

What is not changing

  • The mushrooms. Same Lion's Mane and Cordyceps. Same daily dose.
  • The founder. Still Jon. Still answering the emails himself, as many of you found out this week.
  • The reason it exists. Built out of a real health scare and a real frustration with supplements that never got used. That story has not moved either, and it is still here.
  • The standard. Real food you can chew, not another powder that migrates to the back of a drawer. That was always the whole point, and it is the reason a food beats a pill for a habit you keep, which we get into in real food vs supplements.

If you are a returning Oddballer

First: thank you. Genuinely.

You bought a snack with a ridiculous name because you believed in the mushrooms inside it, and a lot of you stuck around for years. That is not lost on us.

Nothing you loved is going away. The recipe is the same. The dose is the same. The founder is the same. You will just be reaching for two bites a day now, under a name that finally sounds like it takes the mushrooms as seriously as you do.

Same mushrooms. Better everything else.

Welcome to Sporeticus. Glad you are still here.
